Expert roof installation for lasting protection
We install two kinds of roof, asphalt shingle and metal. Both keep a home dry through Virginia storms, summer heat and winter freeze. Which one suits you comes down to budget, how long you plan to stay and how the house looks.
Asphalt shingles
Asphalt is the most common roof on American homes, and for good reason. It costs less up front, it comes in a wide range of colors and a good one holds up well to wind and rain.
We install CertainTeed Landmark PRO with Max Def color technology. It is an architectural shingle, which means a thicker, layered build that gives the roof depth and shadow. A three tab shingle is a single flat layer. It is thinner, lighter and cheaper, and it looks flat from the street.
Cost-effective and widely used for residential homes
Available in many colors and styles
Strong weather resistance and durability
Metal roofing
A metal roof sheds snow, rain and heat. It reflects sun instead of soaking it up, which takes load off your air conditioning in July.
For homes we use 29 gauge and 26 gauge steel. For the premium finish we use 24 gauge Kynar 500, and crinkle finishes are available too. Standing seam and rib panel are both on the menu.
Built to last through extreme weather
Reflects heat to lower cooling costs

Before the quote
Tear-off or go over the top
Ask three roofers and you will get three answers. Here is the plain version.
An overlay is a second layer of shingles installed over the roof you already have. It costs less because there is no tear-off labor and no disposal.
It is not always possible. More than one existing layer rules it out. So does any decking damage underneath.
What rules out an overlay
More than one existing layer of shingles
Any damage to the decking underneath
A roof you want inspected before it is covered
Not sure which side your roof falls on? The free inspection will tell you.
Paying for it
Insurance claim or out of pocket
Sudden damage from a storm, hail or wind event is usually an insurance matter. Age, wear and general deterioration are not. No policy covers a roof that has reached the end of its life.
Storm chasers work this gap, so we will keep it simple. An inspection tells you which situation you are in. It costs nothing to find out.
Usually a claim
Sudden storm, hail or wind damage.
Usually not a claim
Age, wear and slow deterioration.

What a roof replacement costs and what moves the number
Two houses on the same street can get quotes that look nothing alike. These are the reasons.
Roof size, measured in squares rather than square feet.
Pitch and number of storeys. Steeper and higher means slower work and more equipment.
How many layers are coming off, plus disposal.
Material. This is the biggest single swing, asphalt against standing seam metal.
Complexity. Valleys, dormers, skylights, chimneys and anything that needs flashing.
Decking condition. Nobody can know it until the tear-off, and it is the one that changes a quote mid-job.
Gutters, ventilation and any other work bundled in.
A real number comes from a real inspection. Anyone quoting a roof from satellite images without walking it is guessing. That is why the inspection is free.
